CLASS POLICIES

Junior High Expectations

  1. Students are admitted to the building at 7:50am. All phones and Smart watches should be turned off when entering the building in the morning.  Now that breakfast is no longer part of our morning routine, outside food and beverages are limited to cold lunches—when applicable—and water bottles. You are expected to stand quietly in a line outside of your homeroom until granted permission by an adult to enter.  Once in the classroom, students will: follow locker directions as explained by teacher, get their books and supplies for their morning classes, as well as turn in phones (and Smart watches) and notes to the teacher.  ALL students should have a silent reading book that they will then sit and read until approximately 8:15am.

  2.  Come to class prepared. Try to make sure you have all necessary supplies--sharpened pencils, books, folder, notebook, planner, loose-leaf paper, Chromebooks when needed, assignments, etc.  It is your job to be organized and prepared. You will not be allowed to return to your desk or locker without teacher permission to look for something during class.

  3. Stay in your seat when someone--teacher, classmate, principal, guest, etc. is speaking to the class. (This includes over the intercom.) It is distracting to the speaker as well as your classmates and considered rude behavior if the audience is not sitting and listening to what is being said.

  4. No wandering, running, chasing, etc. in the school building. If you need something during a lesson, explanation, or presentation, raise your hand, but prepare to be told to wait. This includes sharpening pencils, turning in assignments, throwing something in the trash, bathroom emergencies, etc.  If you need something during small groups, i-Ready, or work practice time, you do not need to ask the teacher. You can sharpen pencils, get kleenex, get paper, get a dictionary, etc. QUIETLY when you need them.

  5. No perfume, make-up, body spray, spray deodorant, individual hand sanitizer, lotion, air fresheners, etc. can be used at school.  Strong scents—especially in combination with the cleaning chemicals, hand santizers, etc. already in use at school, can trigger reactions in people with certain medical conditions.  Therefore, only school provided items can be used while at school.

  6. Remember to be considerate of everyone’s personal space and feelings.  Unless alternative directions are given, this includes: staying in your own seats, only using your own lockers, organizing materials in a manner that you can carry your own things, etc. This also includes the passing out of gifts, invitations, and the wearing of masks, etc. While masks are OPTIONAL, they are recommended.

  1.  Turn in completed work on the day it is due. A 20% penalty will be assessed for all late work.  Work that is considered excessively late will be accepted and scored at the teacher’s discretion. Work should have your FULL name on it--complete heading when directed--and directions should be followed. Make sure all pages are included and stapled together in the left hand corner.  Observe margins. Use loose-leaf paper, NOT paper torn out of a notebook. Follow directions--both written and verbal. If something is confusing, ASK.

Remember that ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES, both positive and negative. These include: verbal and written warnings, emails and/or phone calls home, loss of privileges, detentions, principal intervention, parent/teacher conference, etc. Also included are: Lifesavers, earned free time, occasional extra credit opportunities, etc. Junior high students should not need to be reminded daily about following the rules.
